12AM

Born in 1995 in Ottawa, Canada, R&B and pop singer/songwriter Matthew Dubois is better known by his stage name 12AM. Growing up listening to artists such as The Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, and Marvin Gaye, he was inspired to create music when he began listening to hip-hop artists like Eminem, Lil Wayne, Drake, the Weeknd, and 50 Cent. He began releasing his music on streaming platforms and started to build an audience, eventually landing songs on new music playlists in Canada and the US. His music began to be praised by music industry players such as Lyrical Lemonade. Early songs such as “Love Dies” and “Voices” earned him over six million streams even before any official label release. 12AM released the critically acclaimed Afterparty EP in 2017, which was a critical success and raised his commercial profile. Relocating to Los Angeles, California, he began writing songs and collaborating with other artists as well as undertaking successful tours. He continued his success with singles such as “Lost” (2020), “Wake Up” (2021), and “Ski Mask” (2021). After several years in Los Angeles, he moved back to Canada and settled in Toronto. In February 2022, he issued the single “Showgirls” (featuring Tyla Yaweh and Pressa). Four months later, 12AM released the single “Hollywood,” a song about how living in Los Angeles drove him to depression.
