2 Unlimited is a Dutch eurodance act formed 1991 in the Netherlands by Belgian producers and songwriters Jean-Paul de Coster and Phil Wilde. They originally recruited rapper Ray Slinjngaard and vocalist Anita Doth to front this dance project. 2 Unlimited went on to score numerous chart hits in Europe, selling 18 million records in the process. While many of their contemporaries crossed over to the U.S. market, 2 Unlimited’s success in the States was minimal. Their first single, “Get Ready for This”, entered the Top 10 in many countries including Belgium, Australia, Ireland, England, and The Netherlands. The song landed in the Top 40 in the U.S. three years after its original release. Their 1992 debut album, Get Ready!, hit the Top 40 all across Europe. Their biggest breakthrough occurred in 1993 when the single “No Limit” climbed to the top of the charts in the UK, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain, Germany, France, Belgium, Austria, and other countries. The single eventually went Gold or Platinum in many of those countries. The next single, “Tribal Dance”, went Top Five across the board. The second album, No Limits, reached the Top 10 in many European countries. They continued with a string of Top 40 hits and a third album, Real Things (1994), which became a Top 20 hit across Europe as well. After several best-selling ‘hits’ collections and remix albums, Slinjngaard and Doth left 2 Unlimited In 1996. Wilde and De Coster replaced them, but 2 Unlimited’s releases were never as successful as their earlier output. Slinjngaard and Doth reunited as Ray & Anita and performed the hits of 2 Unlimited. They eventually worked with De Coster as 2 Unlimited for a brief time before Doth left. De Coster and Slinjngaard hired a new female vocalist and continued as 2 Unlimited.
