9m88 – born November 20, 1990 in Taipei, Taiwan - is a New York-based neo-soul, jazz, and pop musician from Taiwan. While she is reluctant to reveal her real name, she is also referred to as Baba. In college, she majored in fashion design but eventually focused on music and transferred to The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York, New York. Early on, she began to blend different styles of music and incorporating her fashion background with retro visuals, creating a unique look and sound. Her 2017 single “Nine Head Hina” - backed by a cover of the City Pop classic “Plastic Love” - was successful and introduced her to a larger audience. She collaborated with many artists including Leo Wang, Ma Nien Hsien, Bohan Phoenix & Slodown, and ØZI. 9m88 released Beyond Mediocrity, her debut album, in 2019 to critical acclaim. The album featured the singles “Aim High”, and “Nine Head Hinano” plus “Airplane Mode” (featuring Leo Wang). In July, 2020, she released the single “Hello Bye Bye”, which was an instant success with fans and new audiences alike.
