Singaporean five-piece A Vacant Affair are often credited with bringing metal music into the mainstream in their native country. Formed in 2004, the band consists of vocalist Matthew Lim, guitarists Joshua Tan and Rudi Osman, bassist Tan Wei Shen, and drummer Hafyz Tajuddin. Shortly after its inception, A Vacant Affair cut their teeth in Singapore’s underground circuit before gaining mainstream attention with their self-titled EP in 2006. It took over two years for the band to deliver the follow-up to their critically-acclaimed debut EP, 2009’s Reasons to Leave. Preceded by lead single “We Are Not the Same,” the album fulfilled the promise of their earlier work and found the band at the peak of its powers, opening for bands like As I Lay Dying, Story of the Year, and The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. Subsequently, A Vacant Affair continued to present their studio debut both in Singapore and abroad, including a tour throughout the Philippines with Pinoy bands April Morning Skies, IMBUENOKUDOS, COG, and Boy Elroy.
