Syrian Abed Azrié is the voice of the great mythical poets of the Arab world and the Middle East. Abed Azrié uses a base of traditional Arabic music to which he adds contemporary sounds based on electronic instruments. In 1977, Abed Azrié set to music theEpic of Gilgamesh, the great Sumerian saga. The poems of Omar Khayyam were also set to music in 1999, before Abed Azrié turned his attention to Sufi poems with Mystic in 2008. Evangile Selon Saint Jean in 2009 is a daring oratorio sung in Arabic, while Satie en Orient is no less ambitious in 2011. In 2012, Abed Azrié Chante Adonis is dedicated to the Syrian-Lebanese poet Ali Ahmed Saïd Esber, also known as Adonis.
