One of the Netherlands' premier cabaret-inspired music duos, Acda en De Munnik comprises Thomas Acda and Paul de Munnik whose signature harmonies, theatrical flair and catchy relatable lyrics have seen the group maintain a stronghold on the country's pop-rock scene for nearly three decades. Beginning life as a theatre act, the group formed in Amsterdam in 1997 with David Middelhoff joining for their first self-titled album. The group hit the jackpot with 1998's top ten single "Niet of nooit geweest"—one of the biggest popular songs in Dutch history—fleshed out by a full band featuring drummer Kasper van Kooten and keyboard player Diederik van Vleuten who performed on their debut as well as their next three albums: 1998's Naar Huis, 2000's Hier Zijn, and 2002's Groeten uit Maaiveld. 2002 marked a line-up re-shuffle with guitarist and keyboardist JB Meijers and drummer Dave van Beek joining for a new collaboration and theatre show with Van Dik Hout, the Best of the Poemas, which won them a Golden Harp award. The following year, they teamed up with theatre director Ruut Weissman to write comedy rock-opera Ren Lenny Ren! with the band's 2004 album Liedjes van Lenny forming the basis of the music. They issued another trio of studio albums, 2007's Nachtmuziek, 2009's Jouw Leven Lang Bij Mij, 2012's 't Heerst. In 2014, they announced their decision to part ways live on Dutch TV but returned in 2023 with comeback single "Morgen Wordt Fantastisch."
