Afro Cuban Jazz Project

Afro Cuban Jazz Project was the brainchild of Cuban jazz flute player Orlando “Maraca” Valle. Formed by Valle in late 90s Havana, the band masterfully interpreted traditional Cuban music styles such as son, guaracha, and bolero with a distinct Latin jazz feel. The group’s lineup featured some of Cuba’s best-known studio musicians, such as Wilfredo Campa, Aramis Galindo, Barbarito Torres, and Tata Güines. In 1998, they released Descarga Uno, a collection of jam sessions that was followed by an eponymous album the following year. Despite its short-lived career, the nine-piece is still remembered as one of the lead exponents of Afro-Cuban music throughout the world. Subsequently, Valle continued with his prestigious solo career and went on to collaborate with the likes of Afrocuban All Stars, Yumurí y Sus Hermanos, and Cesária Évora.
