The original line-up consisted of Michael "Fame" Günther (bass), Lutz "Lüül" Ulbrich (guitar), Lutz "Ludwig" Kramer (guitar), Christoph Franke (drums) and Burghard Rausch (drums, joined later). The band became known for its experimental approach, combining psychedelic sounds, oriental influences and improvised passages. Their debut album Malesch was released in 1972 and was inspired by the band's journey through the Middle East. It combines spherical sounds with rhythmic experimentation and is considered a milestone of Krautrock. The second album 2nd followed in 1973, which continued the improvisational style and brought the band international recognition. Although Agitation Free broke up in its original formation in 1974, its influence on the Krautrock scene remains undisputed. After various solo and band projects by the members, the band reunited several times in the 1990s. in 1999, the band released the live album Last, which contained recordings from the 1970s. in 2023, Agitation Free released the studio album Momentum, which shows that the band has lost none of its experimental energy even after decades.
