Raised in a small Welsh-speaking community in Anglesey, Aled Jones first started singing in the choir at Bangor Cathedral at the age of nine - and was lead soloist two years later. He was in his early teens when he found fame singing 'Walking in the Air' in an animated television movie of 'The Snowman' shown on Channel 4 in the UK in 1982. The song reached number five in the UK charts and he went on to sing with the National Philharmonic Orchestra in the film 'Santa Claus: The Movie' (1985). By the age of 16 he had recorded 16 albums accumulating more than six million sales, sang in front of the Pope and the Royal Family, and had become one of the first classical performers to cross over into mainstream audiences. He went on to study at the Royal Academy of Music before embarking on the second phase of his career, moving into musical theatre to star in 'Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat'. Jones later moved into popular television, competing on 'Strictly Come Dancing' in 2004 and becoming a radio and television presenter, best known for fronting religious programme 'Songs of Praise'. He has also continued his singing career with a series of albums and stage shows. In 2013, he was awarded an MBE in recognition of his services to music and broadcasting. In recent years, his albums have included 'One Voice' (2016), which peaked at number three in the UK Albums Chart, 'One Voice at Christmas' also released in 2016, 'One Voice: Believe' in 2017 and in 2018 'In Harmony' with Russell Watson. He and Watson dueted again on the album 'Back in Harmony', released in 2019.
