Alex Cortiz is the stage name of Dutch DJ Aad de Mooy, one of the most recognizable names in the Netherlands’ dance music scene. Originally from Rotterdam, de Mooy first rose to prominence with the house project D-Shake, which scored a couple of club hits in the early 90s. In the following years, he contributed material to several compilations under the pseudonyms Cat Scanner and Paradise 3001, and took part in the late 90s disco revival as one-third of Flygang. In 2000, de Mooy teamed up with fellow DJ Xavier Perec and adopted the moniker Alex Cortiz, releasing the lounge-tinged Moodfood, which was followed by 2001’s Make Believe and the double album Magnifico! in 2004. In subsequent years, de Mooy continued to produce music at a prolific rate, dropping the albums Lo Tek (2007), Camera 707 (2011), New Works, Vol. 1 (2014), and Dope Spheres (2018), among others.
