Latin Grammy-nominated Spanish singer-songwriter Álex Ubago began writing music as a teenager in San Sebastian before releasing his chart-topping debut album, Que Pides Tu? in 2001 and building up a national fanbase. Born Alejandro Martínez de Ubago Rodríguez on January 29, 1981 in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Basque Country, Spain, Rodriguez's second studio album, 2004's Fantasia o Realidad, catapulted him onto the international stage, with the album going double-platinum in Mexico and earning him a Latin Grammy Award nomination for Best New Artist in 2003. He received another Latin Grammy nomination (Male Pop Vocal Album) for his fourth studio album, 2009's Calle Illusión. The album reached Number 3 on the Spanish Album Charts. Two more studio albums followed, 2012's Latin pop offering Mentiras Sinceras and 2017's Canciones Impuntuales, which featured a collaboration with Puerto Rican star Luis Fonsi, "Cuenta Conmigo."
