Classical pianist Alexander Melnikov was born in Moscow in 1973 and attended the Moscow Conservatory for his musical education studying under Lev Naumov. During his career Melnikov developed a reputation for making unorthodox choices when planning his concert repertoire and became known for his meticulous research and attention to detail when performing historic pieces. As a solo performer Melnikov has appeared with some of the world's finest ensembles including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Russian National Orchestra, working with conductors such as Mikhail Pletnev, Teodor Currentzis, Charles Dutoit, Paavo Järvi and Valery Gergiev. Melnikov has a busy touring schedule and is a top attraction on the international concert circuit. He is an accomplished recording artist with composers such as Brahms, Rachmaninov and Scriabin featuring prominently in his album catalogue. He frequently records for the French classical label Harmonia Mundi, an association which came about after making frequent concert appearances with his recital partner the German violinist Isabelle Faust.
