Amewu, whose real name is Amewu Reiß, was born in Berlin on May 20, 1983 and is a German rapper who is known above all for his profound and socially critical lyrics. His music belongs to the genre of conscious rap, a type of hip-hop characterized by reflective and often political content. Amewu began his musical career in the early 2000s and quickly gained attention for his complex rhymes and the emotional depth of his music. Amewu's debut album Entwicklungshilfe was released in 2009 and established him as a distinctive voice in German rap. He built on this reputation with his second album Leidkultur (2012). He is particularly known for songs such as "Amewu" and "Demut", in which he deals with topics such as self-reflection, social justice and personal struggles. Although his music does not reach high chart positions, it has achieved cult status in the German hip-hop scene and is particularly appreciated for its lyrical depth. Amewu mostly performs as a solo artist, but also regularly collaborates with other artists from the Berlin rap scene. His album Haben oder Sein brings Amewu his first top 10 success in the German charts at number 8.
