Born in Mandla, Madhya Pradesh on July 14, 1987, Indian singer-songwriter Ami Mishra began nurturing a love of music while still at college, honing his skills in a band while also appearing in reality competition shows. He moved to Mumbai in 2014 to pursue his musical dreams and seven months later made his debut with his song "Hasi" – featuring vocals from Shreya Ghosal and lyricist Kunaal Vermaa – for the Indian romantic drama film Hamari Adhuri Kahani, directed by Mohit Suri and produced by Mahesh Bhatt for Vishesh Films. The hit song won the GiMA Award for Best Music Debut at the 6th GiMA Awards, as well as earning Ami Mishra two nominations: Upcoming Male Vocalist of the Year and Upcoming Music Composer of The Year at the 8th Mirchi Music Awards. He went on to add his name and his skills to a mixture of Bollywood films and indie music projects, including 2017's "Manzoor Hai" guitar-pop song and "Lost Without You," with both tracks appearing on 2017 Indian Hindi-language romantic drama film Half Girlfriend, which was based on the novel of the same name written by Chetan Bhagat. 2017 was also the year of electronic bhangra pop jewel "Ding Dang," which was featured on the soundtrack to Indian action dance film Munna Michael. In 2020, Ami Mishra released "Bin Puche Ajana," created again with lyricist Kunaal Vermaa, and the acoustic-led single "Rone Do." 2021 saw the arrival of two new singles: an extended version of "Bin Puche Ajana," and the strings-laced Hindi song "Phir Aaoge" featuring Ayaan Khan.
