Born Anastacia Lyn Newkirk on September 17, 1968, in Chicago, Illinois, Anastacia's future as a performer was somewhat predestined, thanks to her singer father and actress mother. However, her first choice of career was as a dancer, despite the onset of often debilitating Crohn's disease at the start of her teens. That was until her appearance on MTV talent show The Cut, which was to change the popstrel's history. Offers from record labels flooded in and the singer soon signed with Sony Music's independent Daylight arm. Her debut album, Not That Kind, was released in 2000, becoming an overnight success story and breaking the Top 10 in most countries throughout Europe. The hit single "I'm Outta Love" pushed the album further up the charts and Anastacia hit the big time. A performance for VH1's Diva's Live soon followed in 2002, seeing the star strut her stuff alongside the likes of Mary J. Blige, Shakira, and Cher. However, it was her 2004 self-titled album that finally catapulted her to stardom, reaching number 1 in Australia, Belgium, Germany, Greece, the Netherlands, Sweden, and the UK. Over the following years, Anastacia delivered a slew of commercially successful albums that consolidated her popularity in the global pop scene, including Heavy Rotation (2008), It's a Man's World (2012), Resurrection (2014), and Evolution (2017). Simultaneously, she became a regular presence on reality competition shows such as Strictly Come Dancing and The Masked Singer, the latter of which she won in 2021. Our Songs, her eighth studio album, arrived in 2023, and featured English versions of German rock classics.
