Andreas Vollenweider is a Swiss harpist whose music falls into jazz fusion, new age, world and classical styles. Born into a musical family, he developed the electro-acoustic harp and performed in a trio called Poesie und Musik with bassist Rene Bardet and guitarist Orlando Valentini in the mid-1970s. His debut solo album, 'Eine Art Suite in XIII Teilen', came out in 1979 and he formed a group called Andreas Vollenweider and Friends in 1981. He released 'Behind the Gardens - Behind the Wall - Under the Tree' (1981), 'Caverna Magica' (1983) and 'White Winds (Seeker's Journey)' (1984). 'Down to the Moon' (1987) topped Billboard's Traditional Jazz Albums chart and went to number six on the Contemporary Jazz Albums chart. 'Dancing With the Lion' (1989) reached number 52 on the Billboard 200. Compilations include 'The Essential Andreas Vollenweider' (2005) and 'Andreas Vollenweider & Friends 25 Years Live 1982-2007', which was released in 2009. His 2020 schedule was to include a tour across Germany.
