Australian singer-songwriter Angie McMahon, started playing the piano at the age of four while growing up in Alphington, Victoria. Influenced by artists such as Missy Higgins, k.d. lang and Vance Joy, McMahon joined a nine-piece soul band called The Fabric, winning a competition in 2013 that gave her the chance to open for Bon Jovi during their Australian tour. After taking a short break to complete an arts degree at the University of Melbourne, McMahon returned to music in 2017, winning the Josh Pyke Partnership in 2017 and releasing her debut single, "Slow Mover" in the same year, which was awarded 2 x Platinum. Gaining momentum as an artist and performer, she released several singles, including "Missing Me," "Keeping Time," "Pasta," and "And I Am a Woman." Her debut album, Salt, dropped in July 2019, peaking at number 5 on the ARIA Charts, earning her both an ARIA nomination as well as the best Independent Rock Album or EP at the 2020 AIR Awards. Well known for her covers, McMahon also released her version of Tom Waits' "Take It With Me" and Fleetwood Mac's "Silver Springs," covering ABBA's "Knowing Me, Knowing You" for Triple J's Like a Version in 2020. After a three-year hiatus, McMahon returned in June 2023 with the single "Saturn Returning" following this with "Letting Go" on July 12, 2023. Her second album Light, Dark, Light Again, was officially released on October 27, 2023 and peaked at number 6 on the Australian charts.
