Anne-Marie David

In 1973, French singer Anne-Marie David won the Eurovision Song Contest with her song "Tu te reconnaîtras". Born in Casablanca on May 23, 1952, she was noticed at the age of twenty by the musical Jesus Christ Superstar, in which she played the role of Marie-Madeleine and sang "La Chanson de Marie-Madeleine", her first single. Awarded the Grand Prix de l'Académie Charles-Cros for the song "Aimer", she represented Luxembourg at the 1973 Eurovision Song Contest held in the same city, which she won on April 7 with the title "Tu te reconnaîtras". To promote this success throughout Europe, Anne-Marie David recorded German, English, Spanish and Italian versions of the song, which all charted in their respective countries. The song also wins a performance prize at the World Song Festival in Tokyo, Japan. After extensive touring, particularly in the Middle East, where she was very popular, the singer won back-to-back International Variety Awards in Turkey (1974, 1975), and took part in the Eurovision Song Contest again in 1979. This time representing France with the song "Je suis l'enfant-soleil", she finished in third place. Anne-Marie David went on to perform at a number of galas, and in 1982 recorded the album Rencontres. In 1984, she took part in the musical Le Vent tourbillon, composed by Claude Bolling, and in 1987 in the Festival international de la chanson de Viña del Mar, in Chile, where she came third with the song "2000 ans déjà". Following the release of the Live à Charleroi live album in 2004, the singer presented her Chansons show in 2006, and released the new songs "Federico" (2010), a tribute to Garcia Lorca, and "Traces " (2011), followed by concerts in Paris. In 2013 at the Alhambra, she invites Jean Vallée, Bernard Sauvat, Gilles Dreu, Stéphan Rizon and Violaine Guénec on stage for duets. 2014 sees the release of "You Came to Me".
