Violinist and conductor Augustin Dumay (b. 1949) began his international solo career under the wing of Herbert von Karajan in 1979. Known for his numerous chamber music recordings (EMI, Deutsche Grammophon) and his duet with Maria Joao Pires in Beethoven's sonatas for violin and piano, he has also left his mark on Mozart's violin concertos. His conducting career began in 1988 with the Orchestre de chambre national de Toulouse, and continued with the Orchestre royal de chambre de Wallonie (2003-2013), the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra (2008) and the Kansai Philharmonic Orchestra (2011-2015). A specialist in the Romantic repertoire and creator of contemporary works, Augustin Dumay teaches his favourite instrument at the Chapelle Musicale Reine-Elisabeth de Belgique.
