Rock band formed in Montreal in 1974, made up of Lucien Francoeur (vocals), Mick Gauthier (bass), Pierre-André Gauthier (guitar), Jacques Lalumière (drums) and Jacques Racine (guitar). Their first single "Ch't'aime pis ch't'en veux / Hey You Woman " in 1974 became an instant hit. Their debut album Prends une Chance Avec Moé was released on February 14, 1975, and was followed a few months later, in October 1975, by their second album Une Nuit Comme une Autre , including the hit "Nancy Beaudoin" . This coincided with the departure of Pierre-André Gauthier, one of the group's founding members. A year later, in October 1976, the album Le Cauchemar Américain was released. The group disbanded in 1977 due to musical differences. In 2004, Lucien Francoeur reformed Aut'Chose with members of Voïvod, Groovy Aardvark and Grimskink, joining forces with original band member Jacques Racine. A show at Montreal's Café Campus on April 7, 2005 brings the band back to life. A few weeks later, the album Chansons d'Épouvante is released, nominated in the Rock Album of the Year category at the ADISQ in 2006. Denis d'Amour, guitarist with the last group, died of cancer on August 26, 2005 at the age of 45. He was replaced by Martin Dupuis (ex-Groovy Aardvark), then Alex Crow, before the band went into mothballs. In 2014, 40 years after the first album, the complete Aut'Chose recordings were reissued in a boxed set of 4 CDs and 1 DVD entitled Chaud Comme un Jukebox. Lucien Francoeur's death on November 5, 2024, at the age of 76, put an end to the group's survival.
