Brazilian garage-punk band Autoramas has been rocking stages all across their native country, and internationally, for over 20 years. The group was formed by singer and guitarist Gabriel Thomaz, formerly of Little Quail and the Mad Birds. He moved to Rio de Janeiro and connected with drummer Nervoso and bassist Simone; they intended to create a new type of music that combined 60s surf music, 80s new wave, and punk rock aggression. In the year 2000, the group released its first album Stress, Depressão & Síndrome do Pânico. Autoramas started to gain a wider following, appearing on radio and television as well as performing on festivals such as Rock in Rio. This was followed by the album Vida Real in 2001, followed by an international tour. Nada Pode Parar Os Autoramas, the group’s third album, was released in 2003. After a European tour, the group released their fourth album Teletransporte in 2007. A successful crowdsourcing campaign was carried out for the album Música Crocante in 2011, which contained songs such as the hit “Abstrai.” The track would go on to become one of the group’s most popular songs. Autoramas went on to undergo more lineup changes and release various albums during the following decade, achieving great success in various countries. Their 2018 album Libido was named one of the 20 best Brazilian albums of the year by Rolling Stone Brazil.
