Senegalese guitarist, percussionist and singer Baaba Maal (b. 1953) is one of the best-known exponents of African music, on a par with his compatriots Ismaël Lô and Youssou N'Dour. His albums, a blend of tradition and modernism, have enjoyed widespread international acclaim since the 1990s, notably Firin' In Fouta (1994), Nomad Soul (1998) and Télévision (2009). In 2016, the United Nations Ambassador released what is his eleventh album, The Traveller, as a summary of his activities.
