Named after the popular Carnaval de Mazatlán event in their hometown, Regional Mexican music group Banda Carnaval was formed in 2001 by Jesús Tirado Castañeda. Fronted by lead singer Rafael Becerra, the band quickly made a name for themselves thanks to their romantic, cumbia-tinged brand of banda music. After making their debut later that year with the album Entre Suspiro y Suspiro, Banda Carnaval went on to explore other traditional genres on releases like Aquí Estamos (2008), Corridos y Rancheras (2010), and Máximo Nivel (2012), which spawned the hit singles "Olvidarte No Será Sencillo," "Pídeme," and "El Mentiroso." Released in 2013, their sixth studio album Las Vueltas de la Vida got them their first taste of recognition after receiving a nomination for Best Banda Album at the 2013 Latin Grammy Awards. Over the next few years, Banda Carnaval continued recording and touring, growing a substantial following in both their native country and the rest of Latin America and the US through albums such as La Historia de Mis Manos (2014) and Hombre de Trabajo (2015), a solid collection of songs that cracked the Top 5 of Billboard's Mexican Albums chart. Banda Carnaval's winning streak continued well into the 2020s, with the single "Volverás a Ser Feliz" from 2023's Segunda Temporada, reaching number 27 on the Regional Mexican Airplay chart.
