Bellini is a German pop girl group, originally formed in 1997, named after Brazilian football icon Hilderaldo Bellini. Initially, the group included a mix of male and female members but soon transitioned to an all-female lineup after internal changes. Their debut single, "Samba de Janeiro" became a global hit, selling five million copies and earning them an Echo Award. This track sampled Airto Moreira's song from 1972 and peaked at #2 on the German charts. The group's initial lineup faced changes with members leaving to form new groups or for personal reasons like pregnancy. Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, Bellini experienced various member rotations and released several singles, though none matched the success of their debut. Hits during this period included "Magalenha" and "Tutti Frutti" and there were attempts to revitalize their hits with remixes and new releases. After a hiatus, the group reformed in 2013 with new members for the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil, releasing "Samba do Brasil" a reworked version of their hit single. The band saw another revival in 2018 with original member Dandara Santos-Silva and newcomers Lisa Frieg and Megan Sierz. This period marked a resurgence of interest, though it didn't necessarily recapture the initial heights of their debut era. Their journey reflects a series of adaptations to the changing dynamics of the music industry and member transitions, yet they remain a notable name in the European pop music scene.
