"You only call me on the weekend," sings BIBI with confidence on her boppy 2021 R&B-rich single "Weekend." Born Kim Hyung-seo on September 27, 1998 in Ulsan, South Korea, the genre-blending singer-songwriter rose quickly to the top of the South Korean music scene after her self-produced SoundCloud-dwelling songs were discovered by South Korean star Yoon Mi-rae in 2017, and she was signed up by Feel Ghood Music. She teamed up with South Korean rapper Black Nine for the collaborative track, "Payback" that same year, releasing her first official solo single, the low-slung bilingual pop "Binu" in 2019. An EP on Feel Ghood Music came in June that year, The Manual For People Who Want To Love (사랑하는 사람들을 위한 지침서), with another non-album single also emerging that year; "Step?" (자국) She has since accrued a stack of both solo and collaborative singles, logging a guest spot on Park Jin-young's 2019 single "Fever," which also featured Superbee. BIBI unleashed an array of singles in 2021, including "Why K" featuring Tiger JK, as well as an EP; Life is a Bi... (인생은 나쁜X), which made it to Number 31 in Korea. Her first studio album, Lowlife Princess: Noir, saw the light in November 2022 and relays the tale of the fictional Oh Geum-ji, for which she drew inspiration from the protagonist in Park Chan-wook's 2005 South Korean psychological thriller Lady Vengeance. The album went to number seven in South Korea and was followed by 2023 single "Jotto," which was named Best R&B & Soul Song at the 2023 Korean Music Awards. In February 2024, she reached new heights of commercial success when the Chang Ki-ha-produced single "Bam Yang Gang" shot to number one on the Gaon Digital Chart. New single "Sugar Rush" also dropped in 2024.
