Blitz Vega

Blitz Vega are an alternative rock band originally comprising the late bassist Andy Rourke of the Smiths, and currently comprising frontman and guitarist Kav Sandhu of Happy Mondays, along with guitarist Thom Arizmendi, keyboardist Asa Brown, guitarist Greg Gent, and drummer Craig Eriksson. The band's formation stemmed from a longstanding friendship between Andy Rourke and Kev Sandhu, who first met through mutual acquaintances and bonded over their shared passion for music. They officially debuted with the single "Hey Christo" in April 2019, followed by "Lost & Found" in September and "LA Vampire" in October of the same year. In April 2019, they recorded a live EP at Abbey Road Studios. Their music is characterized by driving guitar hooks, powerful vocals, and a blend of rock 'n' roll attitude with danceable rhythms. In November 2022, they released "Strong Forever," featuring guest guitar work from Johnny Marr, marking the first reunion of any former members of The Smiths. Tragically, Andy Rourke passed away in May 2023, which cast a shadow over their debut album release. Despite this loss, the band vowed to complete and release the album as a tribute to Andy Rourke's legacy. Northern Gentleman was released in April 2024, featuring tracks like "Disconnected," which was built around a bassline Andy Rourke introduced during recording sessions. The album served as a poignant farewell to Andy Rourke's illustrious career, encapsulating the band's creative journey and the enduring spirit of their music. The Lost Myself EP also came out in 2024.
