Formed in Bogotá in 2005, the eclectic music collective Bomba Estéreo reached international fame through their kaleidoscopic blend of cumbia, psychedelic music, electronica, and more. Originally a solo effort by Colombian musician Simón Mejía (formerly a member of the art collective A.M. 770), the lineup was completed with the addition of singer and rapper Liliana "Li" Saumet, who featured on the mini-album Vol. 1 (2006), Mejía's first release as Bomba Estéreo. Soon enough, the project developed into a full band when Diego Cadavid, Julián Salazar, and Enrique "Kike" Errugola were brought into the fold. In 2009, their album Blow Up, a US reissue of their 2008 LP Estalla, introduced them to a whole new audience through the hit single "Fuego," featured in several series and video games. Their next album, 2012's Elegancia Tropical, received a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album. In 2015, Bomba Estéreo returned with their major-label debut Amanecer, which climbed to the top of the Colombian charts and reached Number 2 on the streaming charts in the US. Over the course of the next few years, the band continued its exploration of Latin American music with critically acclaimed albums like Ayo (2017) and Deja (2021), both of which elicited praise from critics and racked up nominations at the Latin Grammys. In 2022, they scored another hit after Puerto Rican producer Tainy remixed their single "To My Love."
