Boom Crash Opera

Formed in Melbourne, Australia, in 1985, the pop/band Boom Crash Opera is best known for the double-platinum Australian release These Here Are Crazy Times, as well as the 1989 international hit "Onion Skin." Rooted in the songwriting partnership of guitarists Richard Pleasance and Peter Farnan, the group debuted with the self-titled album Boom Crash Opera in 1987. The album's lead single, "Great Wall," peaked at Number 5 in Australia, which "Hands Up in the Air" climbing to Number 16 and "Her Charity" hitting Number 32. Nominated in three categories at the 1987 ARIA Music Awards, Boom Crash Opera returned in 1989 with These Here Are Crazy Times, a globally-successful album that charted at Number 10 in Australia and featured four Top 40 singles. One of those singles, "Onion Skin," became the band's first and only hit in America, where it peaked at Number 8 on Billboard's Modern Rock chart. 1993's Fabulous Beast was another Top 20 success in Australia, and 1995's Born found the band returning to the upper reaches of the ARIA chart with "Gimme," which hit Number 14. Following Gizmo in 1997, the band focused on a series of compilation albums during the early 2000s, then reuniting in 2009 for their sixth album, Dancing in the Storm.
