Real name Georges Thurnston, Boule Noire was born in Bedford, Canada, on December 29, 1951, and grew up in numerous foster homes after being abandoned by his parents at birth. He began his musical career with the R&B group Les Zinconnus in 1965, but after three years of loyal service decided to go solo. Although his 45-turn singles were not very successful, he worked in the shadow of artists such as Robert Charlebois, Claude Dubois and Nanette Workman. It wasn't until 1975 that he gave up his real name for the pseudonym Boule Noire, in homage to his Afro haircut, and scored his first hit the following year with his song "Aimes-tu la vie". He continued to write for other singers, but did not neglect his solo career, releasing the album Aimer d'amour, which included his biggest hit of the same name. He died of cancer in 2007, having embarked on a late career as a radio host, without ever having stopped composing.
