Boulou Ferré is one of the great figures of jazz guitar, best known for his recordings in the Manouche style, although his instrumental skills extend far beyond this genre. Son of Matelo Ferret, a member of the Hot Club de France quintet, and elder brother of Élios Ferré, the prodigy was just twelve years old when he recorded his first album and made a name for himself in concert. In the 1970s, the guitarist switched to electric and explored the paths of free jazz through daring collaborations. Boulou Ferré returned to duet with his brother (Boulou & Élios Ferré), then to trio and quartet before slowing down. The double anthology Complete Barclay Recordings released in 2012 offers a fine assessment of the Barclay years.
