Formed in Mobile, Alabama in the late 1980s, hip-hop act B-Rock and the Business Boyzz – later shortened to B-Rock and the Bizz – enjoyed a short-lived period in the spotlight with the release of their 1997 single “MyBabyDaddy”, an RIAA Gold-certified novelty track which peaked at number ten on the Billboard Hot 100. Originally comprised of frontman and producer Baron “B-Rock” Agee, his brother Leevirt Agee, Thaddeus “T-Bird” Maye and Paul Costict, the group inked a deal with LaFace Records ahead of the hit single’s release, although would ultimately part ways with the label, causing them to postpone the release of their debut album, Porkin’ Beans and Wienes. The LP eventually arrived in 1999 via Rawcast Entertainment, a label co-founded by B-Rock himself, and did not chart. A Ludacris-assisted remix of the album cut “Mymamanem”, retitled “Mamanim”, landed in 2002, as did an eighteen-track LP of the same name, which featured contributions from future hitmaker and GRAMMY Award-winner The-Dream in place of former member T-Bird. Although they disbanded soon thereafter, B-Rock would go on to have a fruitful career as a producer. His more high-profile credits included Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes’s posthumous 2009 track “Crank It”; a collaboration with Rick Ross, Gunplay and The Game the same year entitled “Gangsta Shit”; and a 2010 remix of Usher’s “Nice & Slow” featuring guest vocals from Twista.
