Broery Marantika is the stage name of Simon Dominggus Pesulima, an Indonesian pop singer and actor. Born on June 25, 1948, in the city of Ambon, he first rose to prominence after winning a local singing contest organized by Radio Republik Indonesia when he was just 20 years old. This victory singlehandedly launched his artistic career as he relocated to Jakarta and cut his first couple of records between 1968 and 1969. In 1971, he made his acting debut in the film Matahari Hampir Terbenam and later starred in the movie Akhir Sebuah Impian (1973), in which he sang the songs "Angin Malam" and "Mimpi Sedih." Some of his most popular singles include "Widuri," "Rindumu Rinduku," "Duri Dalam Cinta," and "Aku Dan Malam," which was featured in the 2015 compilation Koleksi Lagu Lagu Terbaik. After suffering a stroke in 1998, Broery Marantika passed away at the age of 51 on April 7, 2000, in Depok.
