Brother Sundance is the alternative pop project of American songwriter Ryan Talerico, who was born in Boca Raton, Florida, on October 2, 1998. Raised by a musical water, he began playing drums at two years old and switched his attention to the guitar as a teenager, sharpening his chops as the frontman of the underground punk act Wallace. As high school graduation approached, he brought Wallace to a close and launched a solo career instead, focusing on more pop-influenced music. His debut EP, Honey, was recorded in his childhood bedroom and released under his alias, Brother Sundance, in August 2017, two months shy of his nineteenth birthday. The record showcased his talents not only as a writer, but as a producer, too, and its collection of inventive, left-of-center pop songs — including the singles "Blind" and "The Hurt" — earned support from champions like Elton John. One year after Honey's release, Talerico produced Alex Di Leo's 2018 album Strange Open Land. He then revived the Brother Sundance project for "Nightmares," which became a viral hit in early 2020 and later reappeared on his indie-pop EP I Hurt You, I Made This later that year. A follow-up EP, Rat Race, arrived in 2021.
