Although he is better known in Europe than in Jamaica, Bushman was one of the instigators of nu-roots in the Nineties. Bushman also championed the conscious dancehall of Capleton and Sizzla. Nyah Man Chant in 1997 was his first album and his greatest success. He followed this up with Total Commitment (2000) and, above all, Higher Ground (2001), both produced by Prince Jammy. A low-key artist, Bushman doesn't make much of a name for himself, apart from Toe 2 Toe (2004) with Luciano. Bushman paid a fine tribute to Peter Tosh in February 2011 with Bushman Sings the Bush Doctor: A Tribute to Peter Tosh.
