Cabas

Known for his blend of Latin pop and traditional Colombian rhythms, Cabas is a Colombian singer-songwriter who first gained fame in the early 2000s with his hit song "Mi Bombón." Born Andrés Mauricio Cabas Rosales on October 7, 1976, in Barranquilla, Colombia, he began studying piano and percussion at a young age and later traveled to New York, where he became involved with the city's burgeoning salsa and jazz scene. After returning to Colombia, he launched his solo career with the release of his studio debut, Cabas, in 2001. The album featured his breakout single "Mi Bombón," which topped the local charts for 3 consecutive months and helped his music reach a wider audience. "Ana María" and "Tu Boca," the two other singles from the album, fared just as well, reaching Number 1 not just in Colombia but throughout Latin America. This success was followed by the albums Contacto (2003), Puro Cabas (2005), De la Sombra a la Luz (2006), and Amores Difíciles (2008), which included the Latin Grammy-nominated single "Bonita." In 2009, he forayed into children's music with the album Pombo Musical, which won Best Latin Children's Album at the Latin Grammy Awards. Featuring cameos by Andrés Calamaro, Vicentico, Mala Rodríguez, and Miranda!'s Ale Sergi, his fifth full-length Si Te Dijera appeared in 2011. Following EMI's demise in the early 2010s, Cabas took a break from recording before returning to the top of the Colombian charts with the hit "Enamorándonos" in 2015. The single revitalized Cabas' career, who would go on to achieve commercial success once again with songs like "Rompe los Niveles" (2017), "To Stay" (2018), and "Amor y Traición" (2020).
