Formed in 1987 by producer Gianfranco Bortolotti, Cappella started off as a Hi-NRG house and went through several lineup changes before settling on its iconic formation in 1993. Fronted by rapper Rodney Bishop and singer and dancer Kelly Overett, the band garnered significant attention with their second album U Got 2 Know (1994), entering the Top 10 in the UK and spawning the hit “U Got 2 Let the Music,” which peaked at Number 2 on the Official Singles Chart. Despite losing one of their most recognizable faces in late 1994 (Kelly Overett was fired from the group), Cappella continued their winning streak with the singles “Move on Baby,” “U & Me,” and “Move It Up.” Featuring contributions by DJ Mauro Picotto, War in Heaven arrived in 1996, followed by Cappella (1998), and the compilation Best of Cappella (2005). The band returned once again in 2013 with original producer Gianfranco Bortolotti and the husband-and-wife duo Lis and Marcus Birks. In the subsequent years, the couple passed away from complications of COVID-19.
