Carlie Hanson (May 18, 2000) is an American singer-songwriter from Onalaska, Wisconsin, who jumped into the spotlight with her viral 2017 single “Only One.” Inspired by teenage pop acts such as Justin Bieber and One Direction, she started uploading cover songs to her video streaming channel at the age of 14. A few years later, she entered a contest organized by a local radio station to see Zayn live by submitting a video of herself singing the British singer’s debut single “Pillowtalk.” Despite not winning the contest, the video went viral, catching the attention of a talent agent who invited her to Toronto to work with producer Rey Villalobos, one half of the duo House of Wolf. Shortly after, Hanson relocated to Los Angeles and wrote a handful of songs aided by songwriter Dale Anthoni. She made her official debut in 2017 with the single “Why Did You Lie?” and followed up with “Only One,” which blew up online thanks to a feature in a playlist curated by Taylor Swift. This helped Hanson land support act spots with Troye Sivan, Kim Petras, and Yungblud, and also secure a record deal with Warner Bros. Records in 2019. Her debut EP Junk, saw the light that year and prompted a subsequent tour throughout Europe and the United Kingdom. “Back In My Arms,” one of the EP’s singles, was also included in one of Swift’s playlists. Preceded by the single “Side Effects,” her sophomore EP arrived in 2020 under the title DestroyDestroyDestroyDestroy.
