The Spanish-born guitarist Carlos Heredia was completely immersed in the culture of classical Spanish guitar playing from a young age. He was a successful performing artist, built fine guitars and taught flamenco techniques to a host of eager students, many of whom travelled across the globe on a pilgrimage to study with one of the latter day masters of gypsy flamenco. Heredia was considered to be one of the finest exponents of contemporary flamenco. He was born in Thres Mil Vivendas, a poor ghetto area in Sevilla, Spain and was known as 'the guitarist of the 3 Mil Viviendas'. In 1997 he recorded a critically acclaimed album for the Chesky label titled 'Gypsy Flamenco'. The album is cited by many guitar critics to be an outstanding example of authentic gypsy flamenco playing and is notable for the way Heredia combined traditional and modern flamenco playing techniques. 'Gypsy Flamenco' remains the only album recorded by the acclaimed guitarist who sadly passed away in 2015.
