Carola, real name Carola Häggkvist, is the stage name of one of Sweden's biggest names in pop music. Born 8 September, 1966 in Stockholm, she has competed at the Eurovision Song Contest on three occasions, winning first place in 1991 with her song, "Fangad Av En Stormvind". Häggkvist first came to the attention of music promoter Bert Karlsson in 1981 after performing on television series Hylands hörna. She released her debut album, Främling, after her first Eurovision performance in 1983, which became a massive success and remains the biggest-selling album in Swedish music history. The album went on to sell over a million copies and remained at Number 1 for 12 weeks. Her fourth album, Runaway, released in 1986 (written and produced by the Bee Gees), featured the hit singles "The Runaway", "Brand New Heart", and "Spread Your Wings". After winning at Eurovision in 1990, Häggkvist eventually returned to the contest in 2006, where she performed the song "Invincible", eventually placing fifth in the contest. She returned to perform in the 2013 edition in a skit about Swedish culture. Häggkvist has released twenty albums over the course of her career, from her debut 1983 debut to her covers record, Elvis, Barbra & jag (2011), and the Christmas LP Drömmen om julen (2016).
