Chad & Jeremy

The British folk-pop duo Chad & Jeremy released multiple American hits during the first half of the 1960s, with "A Summer Song" becoming a signature song of the British Invasion. Bandmates Chad Stuart and Jeremy Clyde formed the group in 1962, having met one another as classmates at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London. "Yesterday's Gone" was released the following year, introducing the pair's harmony-driven sound and earning Chad & Jeremy their only Top 40 hit in the UK. The duo found considerably more success in the US, where "A Summer Song" climbed to Number 7 on Billboard's Hot 100 and Number 2 on the Easy Listening chart in 1964. A full-length album, Yesterday's Gone, was released that summer. By the end of 1965, Chad & Jeremy had released a total of five Top 10 hits on America's Easy Listening chart, including their Number 1 cover of the jazz standard "Willow Weep." Subsequent albums like Of Cabbages and Kings (1967) and The Ark (1968) expanded the group's sound but alienated their pop fans, resulting in poor sales. Chad & Jeremy broke up in 1968, with Jeremy Clyne going on to distinguish himself as a television actor. A mid-'80s reunion was followed by three decades of assorted recording projects and regular touring, with Stuart succumbing to pneumonia on December 2020, 20, at 79.
