Cheikh Raymond is a symbol in many ways. Firstly, musically, as a master of maalouf, a refined Arabo-Andalusian style, and secondly, as a link between the different communities living in Algeria before independence. Murdered on June 22, 1961 by the FLN, his death marked the beginning of the mass exodus of Algerian Jews to mainland France. Hard to find, his recordings were brought together by a group of enthusiasts in Anthologie 1937 - 1961 in 2011. This exceptional boxed set allows us to measure the legacy of this virtuoso and humanist musician.
