Chris Joss

Chris Joss, a French multi-instrumentalist, is known for his cinematic, funky instrumentals that draw from diverse influences like psychedelic rock, Bollywood soundtracks, disco, and dub. Born in the early 1970s, Joss began playing the organ at age 12 and taught himself guitar at 14. In 1981, he formed his first band, later transitioning to bass and focusing on recording equipment by 1984. He gained experience in the electro-funk scene, releasing albums on major labels throughout the late '80s and early '90s before going independent and moving to London. Joss released Music from the Man with a Suitcase in 1999, marking his debut in cinematic-style production. His 2004 album You've Been Spiked on ESL Music garnered attention, leading to multiple releases, including Teraphonic Overdubs (2008) and Sticks (2009). His track "Tune Down" gained wider recognition after featuring in Better Call Saul. Joss launched his own label, Teraphonic Records, in 2014, releasing works like Escape Unlikely (2016) and Volume II (2019). His 12th album, Hyperacusis (2020), is named after a hearing condition that has impacted his ability to perform live.
