Cindy Lee is the iconic drag persona brought to life by Patrick Flegel, the multifaceted former frontperson and guitarist of the Canadian experimental rock band Women. With a distinctive mix of avant-garde flair and hauntingly beautiful aesthetics, Cindy Lee blends elements of glam, 1960s girl groups, and lo-fi art pop into a unique drag expression that challenges conventions and celebrates the fluidity of identity. Emerging from the world of indie music, Cindy Lee's performances transcend traditional drag as they incorporate Patrick Flegel's introspective musical roots, blending experimental soundscapes with visual storytelling. They began experimenting with Cindy Lee following the demise of Women in the early 2010s, with a compilation cassette Model Express released by CCQSK in 2018 and pressed to vinyl by W.25th in 2020. However, the Cindy Lee breakthrough arrived in 2024 via the hypnagogic masterpiece Diamond Jubilee, a critically acclaimed record widely heralded as one of the cult indie albums of the year.
