Code Orange have been dedicated to the craft of metal and punk since 2008, reigning supreme on the US scene while evolving their metalcore dealings to cover elements of hardcore, electronics, hip-hop, and industrial. Originally assembling in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as Code Orange Kids, in the early days the band was composed of current members Eric "Shade" Balderose, Reba Meyers, and Jami Morgan, and original members Greg Kern (rhythm guitar 2008-2010) and Bob Rizzo (rhythm guitar 2010-2011). The other three current members, bassist Joe Goldman, guitarist Dominic Landolina, and drummer Max Portnoy, all joined at a later date. Forming in 2008, they initially looked to the in-your-face hardcore punk of titans like Black Flag and spent the next few years experimenting with their sound until they signed to Deathwish Inc. and dropped their first two label-backed albums: Love Is Love/Return to Dust, which came out in November 2012 under their original name, and I Am King, which followed in September 2014. They marked their first major label outing in 2017 with Forever, released on the iconic Roadrunner Records, with the Nick Raskulinecz-produced Underneath following in 2020. In 2023, Code Orange unveiled their fifth studio album The Above, which was their first LP to be wholly self-produced and notably released on the label Blue Grape Music.
