Confetti's

Formed in Brasschaat, Belgium in 1988, Confetti’s was a short-lived band that helped usher in the Belgian new beat movement which blended new wave, hi-NRG, hip-hop, and Electronic Body Music (EBM). Created by producers Serge Ramaekers (a.k.a. Sir-G) and Dominique Sas and named after the club from which the members frequented, the original group featured vocalist Peter Renkens and dancers – and club patrons - Marleen, Tania, Hilde, and Daniëlla. Their first single, “The Sound of C,” was released in 1988 and reached Number 6 on the French Singles chart and the Top 20 in Belgium. The follow-up single, “C in China” – which featured a Jean-Michel Jarre sample - hit Number 8 in their home country and Number 7 in France. Their third single, “C Day” (1989), was their biggest hit and landed at Number 2 in Belgium and Number 5 in France. Their debut full-length, 92… Our First Album, was released in 1989 and contained their first three hits as well as their fourth single “Keep Smiling” b/w “C Countdown.” After several more non-album singles – including 1990’s “Megamix” and “Put’m Up (Your Hands)” – tension arose behind the scenes between Ramaekers and Renkens and Confetti’s broke up in 1991. The group was resurrected in 2009, although the new lineup didn’t feature any of the original members. Instead, the new vocalist of the band was Geert Tanghe, who had been originally approached to front the band before Peter Renkens stepped in, The new lineup began to perform live under various names including Les Confetti's and Confetti's 2.0. Original vocalist Peter Renkens died on February 14, 2023, at the age of 55.
