The name CSS is a shortening of Cansei de der Sexy, which translates from Portuguese as "tired of being sexy" and is taken from a quote by Beyoncé. The band is the product of a group of friends who got together on the "new rave" music scene, immersed in the underground club culture mixing art and music in Säo Paulo, Brazil in 2003, owing much of their rise to international fame to the internet. One of their tracks Superafim was used in the Brazilian version of TV show Big Brother and they enhanced their reputation with a series of self-made indie releases; gaining further attention with Off The Hook which was accompanied by a memorable video directed by guitarist Ana Rezende. In 2006 they signed to the Sub Pop label to release their debut album Cansei de der Sexy, including the single Let's Make Love and Listen To Death From Above. Their biggest break, however, came in 2007 when their track Music Is My Hot Hot Sex was used by Apple in a worldwide TV campaign for iPod, while other tracks like Alala and Off The Hook gained currency after being used in computer games. In 2007 singer Lovefoxxx was voted Number 3 in the NME Cool List. Second album Donkey was released in 2008, charting all over Europe, including another hit single Left Behind and they toured extensively, singing in both English and Portuguese.
