Daniel Melero

Daniel Melero is an influential Argentine musician, composer, producer, and pioneer of electronic and experimental music in Latin America. He first gained prominence in the early 1980s as the leader of Los Encargados, Argentina’s first techno group, whose debut album Silencio (1986) became a cult classic. Simultaneously, he established himself as a visionary producer, working with bands like Soda Stereo—co-producing Canción Animal (1990) and Dynamo (1992)—as well as Babasónicos, Los Brujos, and Todos Tus Muertos. His solo career began in 1988 with Conga, blending sampling and industrial sounds, followed by the ambient-driven Colección Vacía (1990) and the pop-infused Cámara (1991). In 1992, he collaborated with Gustavo Cerati on Colores Santos, a groundbreaking electronic album that shaped Argentine alternative rock. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Daniel Melero constantly reinvented himself, releasing works such as Travesti (1994), Vaquero (2001), and Después (2004), fusing rock, electronica, and avant-garde sounds. His later projects, including X (2009), Disco (2014), and Cristales de Tiempo (2017), showcase his enduring experimental edge. In the 2020s, he embraced new formats like NFTs with Última Thule (2022) and continued his prolific output with Ultracromático (2024).
