R&B singer, songwriter, and rapper DaniLeigh was born Danielle Leigh Curiel in Miami, Florida on December 20, 1994. While working as a back-up dancer, she began posting her own versions of popular songs on social media before deciding to pursue her career on the West Coast and relocated to Los Angeles, California. Her first big break came in 2013 when she directed the video for “Breakfast Can Wait” by R&B, funk, and soul icon Prince. Mentored by the man himself, she issued her first single, “D.O.S.E.,” in 2015. That same year, she had formed the duo Curly Fryz with her sister Charli and released the songs “Feeling Good” and “Stay On Ten” before splitting. However, DaniLeigh didn’t come to prominence until 2017 after signing with Def Jam Recordings and releasing the Summer with Friends mini album, which included the song “Play” featuring Kap G. Her next album, The Plan (2018), included collaborations with YBN Nahmir, YG, Bill$, Lil Baby, and Lil Yachty. In 2018, she also released several non-album singles including “Life,” “No Limits,” and the hit “Easy” featuring Chris Brown, which rose to number 34 on Billboard’s Top R&B / Hip Hop Songs chart. The following year, she released the My Present EP, which included “Usually,” which was streamed online more than 13 million times. Her 2020 album Movie included collaborations with PARTYNEXTDOOR, Queen Naija, Fivio Foreign, Gunna, Yella Beezy, and Ty Dolla $ign. The album was followed by the EPs In My Feelings (2020), Dominican Miami: The Playlist (2021), Dead To Me (2022), My Side (2022), and the non-album single “Tasty” (2023).
