Dappy

The son of Mungo Jerry man Byron Constovalos and cousin to popstar and former bandmate Tulisa, Dappy topped the charts with grime pop trio N'Dubz and built a strong persona as a dim-witted, swaggering, faux gangsta type who was never far from controversy. Wearing his trademark woolly hat with ear flaps and bobbles, Dappy (real name Costadinos Contostavlos) delivered his raps like a cross between Vanilla Ice, Ali G and East 17's Brian Harvey, yet the group became one of the most talked about in the country and scored a string of Top 10 hits. He featured on Tinchy Strider's singles Number 1 and Spaceship but, after N'Dubz went on hiatus in 2012, Dappy's solo career really took off with debut single No Regrets topping the UK charts. Follow up single Rockstar featured Queen guitarist Brian May and shot to Number 2, while pop stars The Wanted appeared on album Bad Intentions (2012) which reached Number 6 in the UK and portrayed Dappy as a more rounded character appealing to more mature audiences.
