Daran, a brilliant self-taught musician, created Les Chaises in 1991. Quickly signed by major label Wea, they set about making their first album, recorded in a hurry. J'évite le Soleil in 1992 made them the French rock band to watch. The strong personality of Daran's voice and lyrics, and the rock blues aggression of Les Chaises hit the bull's-eye. Huit Barré fulfilled these hopes in 1994 with the impeccable "Dormir Dehors ", the most widely broadcast video in France in 1995. Daran then disbanded the band, thus committing commercial suicide by his own admission.
